Zagros Paleolithic Museum

The Zagros Paleolithic Museum is a prehistoric and early historical museum in Kermanshah, Iran. The first Iranian museum, which is dedicated to the Paleolithic of the country has a rich collection of stone tools and fossil animal bones from different archaeological sites of Iran.

History

The museum was founded by Fereidoun Biglari ( Iranian National Museum ) and A. Moradi Bisetouni ( organization of cultural heritage of the Isl Rep. Iran in Kermanshah ) in Tekieh Biglar Baigi 2007. The Iranian archaeozoologist Marjan Mashkour is the one responsible for the identification of fossil animals.

Structure

The museum has four rooms in finds from the Palaeolithic and Neolithic from different localities in Iran and covers a period from about 1,000,000 to about 8000 years. The first room is an audio and projection room, where in addition to documentaries on prehistoric stone tools and their use, the life-size model of a Neanderthal man is seen.

In the second room of human and animal bones from places of discovery of the Zagros Mountains and replicas are represented human skull from major European and Middle Eastern Palaeolithic find spots. Significant is the collection of animal fossils from the Wezmeh Cave.

The third room contains Palaeolithic tools from different places of discovery as Kaschafrud, Ganj Par and Schiwatu. Among them are two quartz stone tools from Kashafrud of particular importance.

The fourth room contains stone tools, animal bones, shells and other archaeological objects of the Upper Paleolithic and Neolithic, which originate mainly find places in the Zagros region.
