Zakia Zaki

Zakia Zaki (* 1962 in Gabulu Saraj, Parwan, † 5 June 2007) was an Afghan radio reporter.

Zaki ran the radio station sadaye Solh (Eng. The Voice of Peace ). She was one of the few women who worked as a journalist during the Taliban regime. This is remarkable, as the regime tried to ban women from the public as far as possible. In her radio show, she criticized the restriction of freedom of expression and the position of women in society.

After numerous anonymous threats were not taken seriously, Zaki was shot on 5 June 2007 in his sleep.

Zaki was married and leaves behind six children.
