Zala (river)

The Zala

The Zala ( German: Salla ) is a river in south-western Hungary with a length of 138 km and an average outflow of seven cubic meters of water per second. It rises in the Hungarian county Vas / iron castle in the municipality Szalafő 5km west from headquarters Őriszentpéter. To a considerable part of it flows through the county of Zala and Vas county in southwest Hungary, where it passes the city Zalaegerszeg, near which opens the Principáliskanal, connecting them to the river Mur. Then it crosses the Little Balaton to open in the near Keszthely in Lake Balaton.
