Žalec

Žalec ( German: Sachsen field) is a municipality in the Spodnja Štajerska region in Slovenia.

In the city Žalec live with various incorporations around 21,525 inhabitants. It is also the administrative center of Savinja.

The first mention of the city in 1182nd early 1256 Žalec was granted market rights. The valley is characterized by many to Žalec hop fields, which can also be seen in the coat of arms. The area is also called the Valley of Green Gold. Worth seeing is the cave Pekel ( Jama Pekel ). It was already inhabited by Neanderthals. Particularly impressive is a 4 m high limestone waterfall.
