Zambian Airways

Zambian Airways was an airline based in Lusaka Zambia. The stroke was at the Lusaka International Airport.

History

In April 1998, the existing since 1948 airline Mines Air Services owned by the state-owned Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines has been privatized and taken over by holding the Roan Air. The airline was first renamed Roan Air, before then, in September 1999 was named Zambian Airways.

Roan Air flew in early 1999 with a Canadair Challenger and a Beech 1900D. Later, she flew with two neuübernommenen Beech 1900D. In 2000, Zambia Airways, the national airline of Zambia ( flag carrier). In the same year went Roan Air Holding up a joint venture with the South African Comair. Comair assumed a 25 % on Zambia Airways and the Roan Air Holding retained 75%.

A major reason for this joint venture was a franchise agreement with British Airways ( Comair was already franchisee in South Africa). In 2001 began under the British Airways flight numbers BA6450 - 6499 the franchise operation named Zambia Airways operated by Zambian Air Series ( ZAS ) on the routes Lusaka (LUN ) or Ndole (NLA ) close to Johannesburg ( JNB). Was flown with chartered by the South African Safair Boeing 737-200. Zambia Airways also appeared as 'one affiliate member' in the oneworld Fluglinienbüdnis.

The flights did not develop accordingly and so in 2002 the route had Ndole - Johannesburg be set again. A little later, then followed Lusaka - Johannesburg and the Franchi contract was canceled.

Zambia Airways but continued to operate with a Beech 1900D domestic power and the foreign route to Harare (HRE ).

Also interesting is the attempt of Zambia Airways was to go into the intercontinental business. Here she went to a co-operation with Air Namibia (SW) a. This flew for a short time with Air Namibia and Zambia Airways flight numbers with their Boeing 747SP from Windhoek ( WDH) on Lusaka (LUN ) to London Heathrow ( LHR ).

In October 2006, Zambian Airways has acquired two Boeing 737- 200s from the South African Safair, holding an option to acquire a third of this type for the spring of 2007.

Zambian Airways presented the flight operations on 10 January 2009.
