On the pot specimen in the Zanzibar Museum

The Zanzibar Leopard (Panthera pardus adersi ) ( Pocock, 1932) is or was endemic on the Zanzibar Archipelago subspecies of leopard.

The status of the Zanzibar leopard is controversial ( Goldman & Walsh 2002). Local authorities believe that he has died. In 1996, a study by local researchers found that the leopard is found on Unguja. The data were collected through interviews with the local population on the island and by official documents ( Records of the National Hunters ). According to the interviews, animals were seen safely from 1990 to 1996 and the documentation of the National Hunters has imposed Animals 1985-1995 by. However, the study could not detect any live animal.

A stuffed specimen is located in the Zanzibar Museum. The holotype is in the Natural History Museum, London. The Harvard Museum of Comparative Zoology has two copies (including MCZ 40953 ).
