Zapf village is a market on the northern edge of the Upper Franconian district of Bamberg, with around 5000 inhabitants.

Geography

Geographical Location

Its location on a transport path along the River Main from east to west and from Thuringia to Bavaria Zapf village was always in the Main valley transit station. On the main rafters transported wood from the Franconian Forest to the Rhine and to Rotterdam.

Neighboring municipalities are (from north clockwise beginning ): Ebenfeld ( district of Lichtenfels ), Schesslitz, Breitengüßbach and Rattelsdorf.

History

The place was already inhabited in prehistoric times, as finds from the Bronze Age show. Zapf village was first mentioned in the year 904 for the first time. The name goes back to " Zapfo " (village of the journal ), and therefore probably refers to a pin- end host. Original masters were the Meranier, they were followed by the chest things. They sold the place in 1390 to the bishopric of Bamberg, which was in the Frankish Empire Circle from 1500. Since the Imperial Diet of 1803 the place belonged to Bavaria.

On April 1, 1945, parked in Zapfendorf ammunition train of low-flying aircraft was shot. Apart from a few houses of the village was completely destroyed by burning parts of this train.

1955 Zapf village was given the name market.

Until June 30, 1972 PTO village belonged to the defunct district Season stone, before it came to the district of Bamberg. Today, it is classified as a small center in the Upper Franconia-West region.

Incorporations

On 1 July 1972, the formerly independent communities Kirchschletten, running, Oberleiterbach, Upper Oberndorf and Sass village were incorporated. On January 1, 1978, added Unterleiterbach.

Religions

Almost 80 % of the population is Roman Catholic, 10% Protestant and 10 % belong to another denomination or religious affiliation on.

Mayor

First Mayor since 1978 Josef Martin ( CSU / Vereintes surrounding areas ). He was re-elected in 2008 with 69.78 % of the votes for the fifth time. His successor Matthias Schneiderbanger (CSU ), the 58.59 % of the vote in three rival candidates.

Coat of arms

The Coat of Arms description is: Shared by red and gold; above two growing, diagonally crossed gold cloak pins, below a growing rotbewehrter, Covered with a silver slant bar black lion.

Established businesses

In Zapfendorf the plant is IV the Bavarian dairy industry eGmbH (or BMI for short ), which was founded in 1952 with the aim to process the excess quantities of skimmed milk and marketable. Another major employer is the company Nestmann, where over 50 employees. It manufactures homeopathic medicines.

Breweries

In the market town area is no longer a brewery. The Hennemann brewery in the district Unterleiterbach closed in 2007, the brewery Three Crowns in Zapf village in 2003. In Unterleiterbach there was until the mid- 1990s with the brewery Mahkorn a second brewery.

Clubs

All parts of municipalities except Weihermühle and Babenberg have volunteer fire departments.

Zapf village has a station on the railway line Bamberg -Hof. The place is located west of Federal Highway 73 (Nuremberg - Suhl ) and has its own connection point.
