Zappa Plays Zappa

Zappa Plays Zappa is the name of a concert tour and a band that is led by Dweezil Zappa, the eldest son of the American composer and musician Frank Zappa. Zappa Plays Zappa is dedicated to the performance of the music of Frank Zappa.

The band first appeared in 2006 with the show Zappa Plays Zappa - Tour de Frank in Europe, Canada and the United States. She presented a selection of rock tracks from the 1960s to the 1980s. Apart from Dweezil Zappa on lead guitar, the band of young musicians and some of the earlier companions of Frank Zappa, Napoleon Murphy Brock, among others (saxophone, flute and vocals). As guests entered the drummer Terry Bozzio and on guitarist Steve Vai. In parts of the show to audio and video presentations Frank Zappa and his music was played, such as in the plays of Chunga 's Revenge, Dumb All Over Cosmik Debris and.

After a break, the band appeared in the fall of 2006 in the United States again, including for Halloween on October 31 in New York. The 2006 show was released on DVD in 2008.

In July and August 2007, the band played on their North American show with the same core cast as in 2006. After that, the band performed in September and October in Europe, before returning to the U.S., starting with another Halloween show in New York. Ray White was a guest vocalist and guitarist on this tour. The 2007 tour ended in early December in Australia and was continued with a handful of appearances in Japan in January 2008. Steve Vai joined again as a guest on these shows. In summer 2008, followed by a short tour in the same constellation of the U.S. and Canada.

On 28 July 2011, a new tour with the " Zappa plays Zappa " project started by the U.S. and Britain. Again with the core cast of 2006, supplemented by two other musicians.
