Zara Nelsova

Zara Nelsova ( born Sarah Nelson, born December 23, 1918 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, † October 10, 2002 in Manhattan, New York) was a classically trained cellist.

Their ancestors were Russians. In Winnipeg, they had their first gig at the age of five years. In London she studied at the London School of Cello. 1942-1944 she was a cellist in the Conservatory String Quartet. This was followed by engagements with the symphony orchestras of Winnipeg, Vancouver and Montreal, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic and the London Symphony Orchestra. She taught at the renowned Juilliard School Conservatory of Music in New York City by 1962 to 2002.

1953 she became an American citizen. She played a Stradivarius from 1726, and an instrument of Pietro Guarneri in 1735.
