Zara (formerly Koçgiri ) is a town and a district of Sivas Province in Turkey. The city has 11,835 inhabitants and the county nearly 22 559 inhabitants. It is 70 km from the provincial capital of Sivas, located on the highway d858, leading to the European Route 88.

Geography

The district is high 2000-2500 m. The highest mountains in Zara are the Tekeli ( 2621 m), the Beydagi ( 2792 m) and the Gürlevik Dagi ( 2676 meters ). Zara is part of the catchment area of ​​the Kizilirmak. The county Zara is located in the center of the province.
