Zarow

Mouth of the Zarow

The Zarow is a lowland river in eastern Mecklenburg -Vorpommern. The criss-crossed with numerous ditches field of Friedlander Great meadow is drained inter alia on the Zarow. To this end, the Zarow has been dredged between Berg and Meier Grambin. With the meeting of two main ditches in Ferdinandshof the river begins its 16 km long journey north through the Ueckermünder Heath.

Around 1730 Moor settlements were created in the shore area. Thus is located at Ueckermuende the settlement Zarowmühl. Towards the end of the 19th century, was floated on the Zarow wood. Today the river in summer is strong herb vegetation. In recent years, two dams were demolished at Meier mountain and Zarowmühl and built sustainable fish ladders. In Grambin there are piers that are used as a haven for yachtsmen on the Lagoon. The Zarow flows west of Uecker, at Grambin, in the Szczecin Lagoon.

The course of the Zarow is considered old cultural boundary between pre-and Pomerania, which is evident in the language and customs and traditions. So you eat west of Zarow hot Awaken east of it fast pretzels.
