History

Name

The name is derived from Middle High German Zaufensgraben Zauche what both "dry" as well as " limit " can mean. Both are suitable, since the ditch is not permanently supplied with water and also forms the southeastern boundary of the district of Gera.

General

In the period from the 16th to the 18th century, there were attempts to Zaufensgraben mining copper ore. A small limestone quarry dates from a later period. In 1900 a brickyard was operated in Zaufensgraben. From 1901 to 1969, the Gera - Meuselwitz - Wuitzer Railway, a narrow gauge light railway ran on the orographic left side through the valley of the Zaufensgrabens. The measures provided for the cessation of December 31, 1970 came a storm on May 3, 1969 before. The Zaufensgraben so strong led flood that the railway line was washed away in several places. The station area Gera - doors, was favored by the rather undersized piping of Zaufensgrabens in the lower area, flooded and completely silted up. The operation has not been subsequently resumed, converted the station to the bus station for abundant 20 years. With the Ikarus buses also this function disappeared. Nowadays, located on the premises, a residential estate that, as there had never been on 3 May 1969 reveals no signs of flood protection. The same applies to the still derived from this time piping.

Striking

Striking points along the Zaufensgrabens there are, for example, at the following locations (about downriver considered ):

  • Slightly below the source begins below the road star Protected Landscape Area Zaufensgraben ( 50.8749512.120472 ⊙ ), which was drawn in some places by unauthorized construction of CJDS affected and extends approximately up to Meuselwitzer road ( ⊙ 50.86539212.102564 ).
  • In the upper reaches close to the source area is in the course of the highway 92 bridge Südosttangente: Highway South East ( ⊙ 50.873812.11737 ).
  • Slightly southwest of the bridge of the B 92 is such the former Gera - Meuselwitz - Wuitzer Railway ( ⊙ 50.8730512.115718 ).
  • North of the arch bridge (see n ) on the village street of Zschippern extends a Zechsteinriff ( ⊙ 50.86974712.106751 ).
  • On the road from Zschippern is an arch bridge ( 50.8691312.10672 ⊙ ), which was closed because of static problems for the automobile traffic.
  • Just east of the end of the road on the southern slope there was during the " Colliser road" means a small bridge that collapsed and was replaced by a small, unsuitable for cyclists dock ( ⊙ 50.8644212.09929 ).
  • On the walk to the Born Hollow is a bridge ( ⊙ 50.86400812.096362 ).
  • There was the Lindenthaler hyena cave, one populated in the Paleolithic level at the near Pfortener road.
  • In its lower portion of the creek flows between its ( underground ) piping beginning ( ⊙ 50.86380312.093451 ) on the road and his Meuselwitzer ( underground ) piping end near the Waterworks Road ( ⊙ 50.86623812.086914 ) in a tunnel.

Hiking

By Zaufensgraben leads the Meuselwitzer road on the orographic right side, which turns into a trail (not suitable for bikes ). Another trail runs along the route of the former Gera - Meuselwitz - Wuitzer railroad, which overcame the slope of Gera Gera - doors after - Leumnitz along the trench. The mostly shaded trails are marked in part. The main trail along the creek crosses this more than once; in the upper part it is from the stream.
