Zavoj Lake

The Zavoj Lake ( Jezero serb. Zavojsko or Завојско језеро ) is a lake on the Visočica in eastern Serbia. It is located at the foot of the Stara Planina ( Balkan Mountains ), has an area of ​​approximately 5.5 square kilometers and a maximum depth of 60 m. The water table is at 612 m height.

The reservoir was created in the summer of 1963, when after a landslide large amounts of soil thawed on the river. Since the thus created 50 m high dam threatened to break a dam was built by the army. Since then, the lake is also used to generate electricity. By damming the Visočica the village Zavoj was flooded. Thus, the lake got its name.
