The Zawisza Czarny (POL 1) is the largest vessel of the Polish Scouts, the home port is Gdynia.

Ship

The ship was built in 1952 by the Remontowa Shipbuilding SA, Gdansk. The Zawsisza Czarny has a steel hull and was originally used as a fishing boat. In 1961, the ship was overhauled for the first time. 1963 was it was extended by three meters. After it was taken out of service, it was converted into a sailing ship. The ship was equipped with today's three masts and a former submarine engine was fitted as a ship's diesel.

The rig of the ship is a rarity. The sails on three masts rigged as a schooner Spreizgaffel ( Wishbone Ketch ). Today, only a few tall ships are equipped with this rig, mostly it is used by small sailing.

Name

The ship is (also Sawischa, Sabisch, Sewisch, Zawisch German ) named after the legend afflicted Polish knights and German religious Zawisza Czarny of Garbow member. He lived at the turn of the 14th/15th. Century. Zawisza was a knight at the King Władysław II Jagiello yard, came to fight the Ottomans and is regarded in Poland as a symbol of courage.

Use

The ship is sailing around the world and undertook inter alia, a cruise around Cape Horn. On the ship sailed the ZHP different crews, including there was a cruise, in which half the crew of blind people was.
