Zborov Castle

The castle Zborov (Slovak Zborovský hrad, also called Makovica ) is a ruined hill fort near the village Zborov in eastern Slovakia. It dominates the street from Bardejov to the north.

The castle was built in the 13th century and was first mentioned in 1347 as Makuicha. It was owned by various families until it was purchased in 1601 by the Rákóczi. The uprising against the Habsburgs, the castle was destroyed in 1684 and again damaged in World War I during fighting between Austria -Hungary and Russia.
