Zdeněk Svěrák

Zdeněk Svěrák ( born March 28, 1936 in Prague) is a Czech actor, playwright and screenwriter.

Life

After studying at the Pedagogical Faculty of Charles University in Prague, he initially worked as a teacher of Czech language and literature. From 1961 to 1969 he worked at the Czechoslovak Radio ( he was also in the mission Nealkoholicka vinárna U Pavouka - " The alcohol-free wine bar to spider " involved), and later as a screenwriter in the Prague Barrandov film studios. He is also co-founder of Jara da Cimrman Theatre in Prague.

The fictional character of Jara Cimrman he invented together with Ladislav Smoljak. His best known and most successful film Kolya, for which he both wrote the screenplay and the main role was played. It was directed by his son Jan Svěrák. The film won six categories in the Czech Film Awards Český lev and an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

He is also the author of children's songs and books, such as Jake asi je to v čudu? ( "How is it actually in the bucket ").
