Zebedee

Zebedee (Hebrew Zabdiel, "Gift of God ", see also Matthias ) is a biblical person who is mentioned in the New Testament.

From Zebedee is only known from the Gospels that he was a fisherman and two sons named James and John had, both were disciples of Jesus. Nevertheless Zebedee has reached a certain celebrity because his two sons, who wore quite frequently occurring name, to distinguish it from other namesakes often referred to as the " sons of Zebedee " were (this was common in the former parlance) or " sons of Zebedee " referred to.

The calling of the sons of Zebedee is described, for example, at 4.21 EU Mt. Later, the nickname given them sons of thunder, because of their impetuous nature, Lk 9,54 EU.

It is unclear whether the counted from the Gospel of Matthew to women under the cross wife of Zebedee (Mt 27,56 EU) is the same as mentioned in Mark 15:40 EU Salome. The Christian tradition sees the same person.
