Zebulon is a city in the U.S. state of Georgia. It is located in Pike County and is its administrative headquarters. The city was named after Zebulon Pike, an American officer and explorer.
Geography
Zebulon is located in the central northwestern Georgia. The nearby towns are Jolly, Reidsboro, Meansville, Rose Hill and Livsey. Macon is located about 79 kilometers south, the capital of Georgia, Atlanta, about 79 kilometers north. The city covers an area of 9.1 km ², of which 0.1 km ² ( = 1.13 %) water.
Demography
At the time of the census of 2000, there were 1181 people Zebulon. The population density was 130.7 people per km ². There were 499 housing units at an average 55.2 per km ². The population consisted of Zebulon 60.12 % White, 36.92 % African American, 0.08 % Native American, 1.27% Asian, 0 % Pacific Islander, 00.68 % reported other races, and 0.93 % from two or more races. 1.95 % of the population to be Hispanic or Latino of any race.
The residents of Zebulon were distributed to 464 households out of which 36.0% were living in children under 18 years. 43.1% married couples living together, 22.4 % had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.0 % were non-families. 27.2 % of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 12.1% of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size is 3.06.
The population was spread out with 28.4 % under the, 9.7 % 18 -24- year-old, 28.6 % 25 -44- year-old, 20.0 % 45-64 year olds and 13.3 % under the age of 65 years or more. The average age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 84.2 males. In the over -18s accounted for 100 women 776.3 males.
The median household income in Zebulon was 29 125 U.S. dollars, and the median family income reached the height of 35,333 U.S. dollars. The average income of men was 25 804 U.S. dollars, compared to 19,479 U.S. dollars for women. The per capita income amounted to 12,772 U.S. dollars. 15.0 % of the population and 12.8 % of families had affected an income below the poverty line, including 14.8 % of minors and 27.1 % of those age 65 or over.
Education
Zebulon has several public schools: The Pike County Primary, Elementary, Middle and High School. The Son -Shine Christian Academy is a private elementary and middle school. The nearest college is located in Barnesville. Many colleges and universities also are located in Atlanta.

Built in 1895 Pike County Courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The 1983 released film " Murder in Coweta County ," starring Johnny Cash and Andy Griffith and the action comedy " The Tank" (1984 ) were filmed in part in Zebulon.
