Zeibekiko

The Zeibekiko (Greek Ζεϊμπέκικο also Zeibekikos Ζεϊμπέκικος ) is a Greek folk dance of Asia Minor origin. He is closely associated with the music of rebetiko, which the Atatürk expelled from their former residential areas of Asia Minor Greeks identified themselves. The most spontaneously exerted solo in front of spectators expressive dance based on improvisation, but the dancer must be able to follow the characteristic rhythm. Steps, jumps, twists figures and improvised out of the dancers from the melody and the beat.

Previously, a distinction was Zeibekiko different species, depending on the location or style of music and rhythm. Some examples are the Kamilierikos ( Καμιλιέρικος ), the Youroukikos ( Γιουρούκικος ) and the Aivaliotikos ( Αιβαλιώτικος ). Although all types are always danced in 9/8-Takt, there are various ways of expansion of the rhythm.

A special Zeibekiko variant is the Aptalikos ( Απτάλικος ), which is danced by two opposing dancers. Also, the rhythm is different. Although it is also danced in 9/8-Takt, one lifts to the last rhythmic phrase. This dance is very popular in the folk music of the Greek islands.
