Zeke Clements

Marlon R. " Zeke " Clements (* September 6, 1911 near Empire, Alabama, † June 4, 1994 in Nashville, Tennessee) was an American country musician, actor and songwriter. Clements had one of the longest and most extensive careers in the history of country music.

Life

Childhood and youth

Zeke Clements was near Empire, Alabama, was born. His ancestors were English and Indian descent ( Cherokee ). Musical influences Clements was from the traditional Old- Time Music, which he learned about neighbors and acquaintances.

Career

At age 17, Clements had his debut in 1928 on radio station WLS in Chicago. He joined Otto Gray and the Oklahoma Cowboys on vocals and guitar and performed regularly in WLS ' National Barn Dance on what his popularity increased rapidly. In 1930 he had his first guest appearance on the Grand Ole Opry, which was sent on WSM from Nashville. With the Bronco Busters, a Western group that also Texas Ruby had as a member, he joined the ensemble in 1933 at the Opry. The Bronco Busters were the first cowboy and Western band, who were regularly represented in the Opry.

The mid 1930s moved Clements to the West Coast to Hollywood, but he summed up in the supersaturated singing cowboys movie business never right foot. The only surviving appearance in a canvas - production lists the IMDb database with the 1946 premiered Charles Starrett - vehicle Two-Fisted Stranger of the renowned B- director Ray Nazzaro. Occasionally he was even involved in a few soundtracks, but overall the movie was not his scene.

In 1939 Clements back to the southern states and took up his work in the Opry again. In the next few years he became one of the biggest stars of the show and is therefore in line with other stars like Bill Monroe, Roy Acuff, Ernest Tubb, and many more. Clements had his first hit with Smoke on the Water, the gecovert 1944 by Red Foley and a year later became a number-one hit. In 1945, Clements Liberty Records in California, which was later renamed the blazon Records. He remained in the coming years continues to be a size in the country music scene and had hits like Blue Skies Mexico. Even as a songwriter Clements was asked; his tracks have been recorded, among others, by Eddy Arnold, Kitty Wells and Red Foley.

Later years

After a relatively short stay at the Louisiana Hayride end of the 1940s Clements drew in the 1950s, around the southern states, and was heard in various radio stations program. The late 1950s and early 1960s, he interrupted his career as a musician and devoted himself in Nashville other business matters.

He then moved to Miami, Florida, where he played banjo for nearly a decade in a Dixieland group. 1971 Clements was taken as a songwriter in the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame because of his achievements. In the 1980s he lived again in Nashville, where he remained a member of the Grand Ole Opry. Zeke Clements died in 1994 at the age of 83 years.
