Zelenograd

Zelenograd (Russian Зеленоград, literally " green city " ) is one of twelve administrative districts of Moscow ( okrugs ), geographically but a separate urban settlement area. It forms an enclave within the Moscow Oblast. Zelenograd is located around 37 km north-west of Moscow city center, outside the beltway, and has 221 712 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Zelenograd is considered a " Russian Silicon Valley ". It was built in 1958 as a " socialist city " on a previously forested area, received city rights in 1963 and was, until 1991, when it became the administrative district of Moscow, inaccessible to foreign visitors. In Zelenograd the most important microchip, laser, micro-and nanoelectronics production of the Soviet Union were established. Several research institutes have also based here, notably the National Research University of Electronic Technology ( MIET ), Sitronics and Rossiyskaya electronica. In addition, Zelenograd seat of a major business school, the MSABA a private Hochschulinkubator.

In the southwestern part of the Zelenograd district Kryukovo is in place of the same village, which in 1941 played an important role in the Battle of Moscow, since the capital pushed the German Wehrmacht during the advance fierce resistance and could be stopped. Slightly east of Zelenograd is the Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow. Zelenograd is connected to the Moscow - Tver - Saint Petersburg motorway as well as on the corresponding line.
