Zeller Horn

The Zeller Horn ( 912.7 m above sea level. NHN ) is a mountain on the boundary limit of Hechingen and Albstadt- Onstmettingen the escarpment, the steep slopes of the Swabian Alb.

It was named after the disposed in the 15th century settlement cell within the boundaries of today's Hechinger district Boll, only the lying below the Zeller Horn Sanctuary of Mariazell consists of the former castle on the site of the castle cell. As a narrow spur of the Swabian Alb Raichberg upstream, the Zeller Horn offers views of the opposing castle Hohenzollern and the Albvorland. On a clear day the view extends to the Feldberg in the Black Forest and in the Stuttgart area.

On the western slope of the mountain is the designated on 14 February 1950 as a nature reserve 4.4 hectare Zellerhornstrasse meadow. It was originally used as a wood meadow of Onstmettingen and displays in its flora related to trains Magerrasen the Holzwiesen on Irrenberg. Also interesting is the contrast between the wooded hillside sections of the Zeller Horn: The south slope has the highest oak scrub heath forest of the Swabian Alb, on the shady northern slopes one finds, however, the typical beech-fir forest of south western.

The conservation area lies at an altitude of 840-900 m is habitat for a large variety of plants, including the herb -Pod lice, the Fragrant Händelwurz and Berghähnlein and the plant communities of the Blue Grass limestone grassland and montane Goldhafer meadows.
