Zeme, Lombardy

Zeme is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 1071 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Province of Pavia in Lombardy. The village is located approximately 37.5 km west of Pavia in Lomellina. The Agogna flows to the east.

History

From the Middle Ages, the spelling Cemide and Zemide have survived. Since the 10th century it was part of the Diocese of Pavia, until they finally came to the Count Palatine of Lomello.

Traffic

Through the community lead the Strada Statale 494 Vigevanese Corsico to Alessandria and the former State Road 596 you dei Cairoli (now a provincial road ) of Castello d' Agogna to Casale Monferrato. The former railway station of Zeme lies on the railway line Mortara - Asti and was closed in 2003.
