Zengővárkony

Zengővárkony [ va ː ː zɛŋɡø rkoɲ ] (Croatian Vakonja ) is a municipality in the small area Pécsvárad, situated in the Baranya County in southern Hungary. The municipality is located three kilometers north of the city Pécsvárad.

The town has a castle ( Vár ) and a baroque church from 1787. The municipality has about 450 inhabitants and is situated on a slope of the mountain Zengő, about 22 km from Pécs.

In nearby Mecsek a nature reserve has been set up in recent years. In the vicinity of the location traces of a 5000 year old city were uncovered from the Stone Age.

The place also houses the parsonage the Memorial Room of Art philosopher Lajos Fülep, a local history museum, which was built in 1858 as the home of a wealthy farmer with a weaving, an egg Museum and the cultural-historical collection of the Museum Szalmakincstár and the burial place of Pál Rockenbauer.
