Zenit (camera)

Zenit (Russian Зенит ) is a brand name for cameras from the former Soviet Union; they were manufactured in the Mechanical Factory Krasnogorsk ( Krasnogorski Mechanitscheski Zavod, KMZ ) and in the optical- mechanical factory Belarus ( Belarusskoe Optiko - Mechanitscheskoe Objedinenie, BelOMO ), which from a merger of Minski Mechanitscheski Zavod (LOF ) and the Vilieka Belarus emerged.

Zenit manufactures since 1951 SLRs. The cameras of the Zenit E-series are now among the best-selling cameras in the world.

BelOMO produced today in a joint venture with Carl Zeiss optical and mechanical parts, assemblies and equipment.

  • Zenit E ( production 1965-1981; equipped initially with zm39 screw thread, later with M42 thread, the KMZ produced approximately 3.5 million Zenit- E cameras that MMZ set 1973-1986 at least another 5 million ago)
