Zeno of Caunus

Zenon of Caunos was the son of Agreophon and successful landlords and wholesalers in the 3rd century BC. He lived at least until 243 BC (year of birth unknown). Around 260 BC, he was for Apollonius, the dioecetes of Ptolemy II, in Asia Minor, Syria and Palestine, 258 he became secretary of Apollonius in arsinoitischen Gau of Egypt in Philadelphia. From 246 BC, he lived as a private citizen in Philadelphia (Egypt). He led an extensive official and private correspondence, which is particularly valuable for understanding the frühptolemäischen Egypt. This correspondence is now known under the name " Zenonarchiv ".
