Zenon Konopka

Zenon Konopka ( born January 2, 1981 in Niagara Falls, Ontario ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who is since January 2014 at the Buffalo Sabres in the National Hockey League contract.

Career

Zenon Konopka began his career as a hockey player with the Ottawa 67 's, for he held until 2002 in the Canadian Junior Football League Ontario Hockey League was active from 1998 and the J. Ross Robertson Cup as OHL champions won in the 2000 /01 season. From 2002 to 2004 played the attacker for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and Utah Grizzlies in the American Hockey League as well as the Wheeling Nailers and Idaho Steelheads in the ECHL. He subsequently received on 1 September 2004 as a free agent contract with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, for which he in 23 games in the National Hockey League, scoring four goals in the 2005/06 season and gave three assists. The remaining time in the franchise, Mighty Ducks, he spent at their AHL farm team, the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks and Portland Pirates.

At the beginning of the 2006/07 season Konopka signed as a free agent at HK Lada Togliatti in the Russian Super League, but returned after only four games back to North America. There he was playing for the Portland Pirates in the AHL before he was released on 26 January 2007 at the Columbus Blue Jackets. In Columbus, the Canadians could not prevail in the following year and a half. For the NHL team the Blue Jackets, he remained no points in nine games while he competed mainly with the Syracuse Crunch in the AHL. On 10 July 2008, the Center has been committed by the Tampa Bay Lightning, for which he is exclusively for use in the NHL since the 2009/10 season. Last year he was still mostly for their AHL farm team, the Norfolk Admirals, stood on the ice. In the 2009/10 season he was the league most penalty minutes in 74 games and sat the Lightning a total of 265 minutes on the penalty bench. He presented simultaneously on a new franchise record. In July 2010 he moved to New York Islanders.

On July 5, 2011 Konopka signed a contract for one year with the Ottawa Senators. On 1 July 2012, he signed as a free agent a two-year contract with the Minnesota Wild. On January 3, 2014 Konopka was released and a day later taken over by the Buffalo Sabres. Buffalo is just 30 minutes south of his hometown of Niagara Falls.
