Zentiva

The Zentiva N.V. is a Czech international operating pharmaceutical company, which specializes in the development, production and marketing of generic products. Since 2009 the company is a part of the Sanofi Group and the brand of their generic products.

Today The Zentiva Group employs almost 6,000 people and has manufacturing facilities in the Czech Republic, Turkey, Romania and Slovakia. 2008, sales of the still independent Zentiva group was 664 million euros. 2010 generated a total turnover of the parent company in the field of generics of around 1.5 billion euros, to which, however, still also 2009 erworbenenen companies Kendrick and Medley count.

For sales in Germany which also belongs to the group Sanofi- Winthrop Arzneimittel GmbH is responsible.

History

The company's roots go back to a former pharmacy in Prague today, their first mention in 1488 and took the name Schwarzer Adler ("U černého orla " ) wore. 1857 this pharmacy was acquired by Benjamin Fragner, whose grandson Jiří Fragner in 1928 decided a pharmaceutical plant outside Prague, in Dolni Mecholupy to build, where even today the headquarters of Zentiva NV is.

After nationalization in 1946 in communist Czechoslovakia, the company was named after the collapse of communism and was re-privatized in 1993 the name Léčiva (drugs). This privatization process was completed in 1998 and the company was now as a public company. In 2003 the company was in Zentiva N.V. renamed and integrated in the same year, the Slovakian company Slovakofarma, further acquisitions followed in 2005, Sicomed, and in 2007 the pharmaceutical sector the Turkish company ECZACIBAŞI.

2009 stopped the French pharmaceutical company Sanofi to its 2006 acquired 25 % stake in Zentiva and took over the company completely. Zentiva became a part of the Sanofi Group and strengthened the position of the parent company in Eastern Europe. 2011, the parent company decided to focus its entire generic activities under the brand Zentiva, thus creating the third largest generics company in Europe.
