Zeta Aurigae

Azaleh is the name of the star ζ Aurigae (Zeta Aurigae ). Azaleh is an eclipsing variable star whose brightness like with a period of 972 days between 3.61 and 3.99 may fluctuate.

The main star is a red supergiant, the companion of spectral type B8 belongs to. Noteworthy is the radius ratio. The K - Star has approximately 200 R ☉ at 22 M ☉, the B star 10 R ☉ at 10 M ☉. The smaller B star shines through in the off and on the ascending branch of covering the wide- extended atmosphere of the K star, this phase lasts but only 0.8 days. ( Chapman 1981)

Azaleh is about 780 light-years away from Earth ( Hipparcos database). Other Names: Haedus, Saclateri, Sadatoni ( " two young goats ").
