Zeugma

A Zeugma (Greek ζεῦγμα " yoke ", literally " the interaction Wrap ", plural " Zeugmata ") is a figure of speech as a form of Brachylogie.

Zeugma in a traditional sense

In the actual ( and older ) sense, the word figure is that in the set of connections to individual sets Community verb is set only once. Examples are:

Under Zeugma is also understood as that character who traditionally is called syllepsis. A traditional example of a syllepsis is:

Other translations choose here but either a neutral verb ( " to remember ", Luther ( revised text in 1984), " pay attention to " Zwingli ) or two ( "see", "hear", NASB ); in the original Hebrew is absolutely no verb

Zeugma in the modern sense

In the modern sense of the term is often thought Zeugma at all, only the syllepsis, which is understood here under an illogical, spoke retardant compound of two or more expressions by saving a set of logically necessary link ( cf., however, the example in the previous section).
