Geography

Geographical Location

Zeutschach is located a few kilometers west of Neumarkt in Steiermark on a plateau on the eastern slopes of the Grebenzen, south of Neumarkt saddle. The municipality, which includes both main peaks of the Grebenzen and the east upstream plateau, is located entirely within a conservation area as well as in the nature park Grebenzen.

Community structure

The only cadastral and town in the municipality is Zeutschach.

History

A settlement of the current municipal area is detectable for the Early Middle Ages, from the east, entering as the end of the 6th century Slavs in the region. The naming in and around Zeutschach occupy the Slavic origin of the settlements.

The name Zeutschach has developed from the Slavic place names " Zizawa " which was mentioned in 1172, in a Latin document for the first time ( "locus qui dicitur Zizawa "). From the Slavic origins of the word can be interpreted as Zizawa " water-rich, swampy area with sour grass ".

The municipality Zeutschach was built in 1849 /50.

Population

According to the census result Zeutschach had 2001 234 inhabitants in the year. The inhabitants are almost all ( 99.1%) owned by the Austrian citizenship and belong predominantly ( 97.0 %) of the Roman Catholic Church.
