Zhan Videnov

Shan Wasilew Widenov (also written Žan Vasilev Videnov, Bulgarian Жан Василев Виденов; born March 22, 1959 in Plovdiv ) was from 1991 to 1996 Chairman of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP ) and the 1995-1997 Prime Minister of Bulgaria.

Life

Widenov studied at the English Language School (ELS ) in Plovdiv, but without obtaining a degree. This he acquired from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations in the degree program External Economic Relations.

After the electoral victory of his party, he became Prime Minister on 25 January 1995. However, the policy of his government was soon very controversial, economically got the state to ruin. On February 13, 1997, he resigned after long negotiations with the opposition after a group of protesters stormed the parliament building (see History of Bulgaria ).

Widenov is married and has a son. He speaks English, Russian and Arabic, today he teaches at a private university in Bulgaria.

In January 2009 he resigned from the Bulgarian Socialist Party. He teaches at the University of Plovdiv economy and euro projects and lives modestly.
