Zhan Zhuang

Zhan Zhuang is a form of Qigong and is practiced in quiet, carefully balanced positions.

Zhan Zhuang can be most accurately translated as " standing like a tree".

The frequently encountered translation " standing column " does not do justice to the inner dynamics of this exercise system.

In addition to training in standing Zhan Zhuang can be practiced while sitting or lying down. The details of the positions can be adjusted to the degree of existing strength and power of the practitioner. Therefore, this form of Qigong is suitable for people of different constitution.

The system of basic exercises, as it is known today, by Grand Master Wang Xiang Zhai (1885-1963) was founded.

One of his most important students, Professor Yu Yong Nian ( born 1919 ) is the current head of the Zhan Zhuang Qigong line.

In 1953 he led Zhan Zhuang at various hospitals in China as a method of treatment of the chronically ill.

Into the West Zhan Zhuang reached the mid-80s by Master Lam Kam Chuen, a longtime student of Professor Yu.

Master Lam lives and teaches in London since 1975. He is the author of several books, among others, the first book on Zhan Zhuang which was published in the West.
