Zhang Yang (director)

Zhang Yang (Chinese张 杨/张 杨, Pinyin ZHANGYANG; born 1967) is a Chinese film director. It stands for a realistic style which could be compared with Andreas Dresen. He became better known in 1998 with the independent production Aiqing MaLaTang, which was very successful both at the Chinese box office, as well as at international film festivals.

Zhang Yang's father is the director Zhang Huaxun.

Zhang Yang grew up in Beijing, attended until 1988, the Zhongshan University in Guangdong, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Chinese literature and then moved to the Central School of Theater (中央 戏剧 学院), at the 1992, he received his degree.
