Zhao Mengfu

Zhao Mengfu (赵孟俯/赵孟俯, * 1254, † 1322) was a Chinese painter of the Song and Yuan Dynasty who distinguished himself by his skill in Chinese painting, Chinese calligraphy, poetry and music. But it is also particularly known for its horse painting. Kublai Khan personally recruited him in 1286 to join the high civil service. At the time of Emperor Buyantu Khan he belonged to the circle of influential people at court. Zhao was a descendant of Emperor Taizu in the eleventh generation born a Prince song. He ended his political career as president of the imperial Hanlin Academy.
