Zhao Yan
Yan Zhao (Chinese赵岩; born March 14, 1962 in Harbin ) is a Chinese journalist. The indictment against him for leaking state secrets made headlines worldwide excitement.
Life
In September 2004, Zhao was arrested after the New York Times, for which he worked, reported on plans resignation of President Jiang Zemin.
He was indicted in the aftermath of revealing state secrets. If convicted, he could have faced up to ten years in prison. Ultimately, however, he was sentenced to three years in prison only for fraud. On 15 September 2007 he was released from prison.
