Zhaozhou Congshen

Zhaozhou Congshen (Chinese赵州 从 谂, Pinyin Zhaozhou Cōngshěn, W.-G. Chao -chou Tsung -shen; jap赵州 従 谂Joshu Jushin; * 778, † 897 ) was a master of meditation Buddhism ( Chan) in the Empire China.

His koans in Biyan Lu and Wumenguan among the best known, including the one in which he poses the question whether a dog have Buddha nature (Mu ).
