Zhi Yi

Zhi Yi ( * 538, † 597) was the founder of Tiantai Buddhism.

Zhi Yi enjoyed as a representative of the Buddhist religion in China, the benevolence of the Sui Emperor Yangdi. When this crown prince during the reign of his father, Wendi was, Zhi Yi mountain monastery received regular payments from state resources. This also had to do with the legitimizing role that gave Buddhism the new dynasty.
