Zhivko Vangelov

Schiwko Wangelow Atanasov ( Bulgarian Живко Вангелов Атанасов; born 7 July 1960 Nova Zagora ) was a Bulgarian wrestler. He won at the 1988 Olympics, a silver medal and was also twice each world and European champions in the Greek -Roman style, each featherweight.

Career

Schiwko Wangelow began in 1972 as a teenager in Haskovo with the rings. He concentrated on the Greco- Roman style. During his military service he was a member of the sports club Trakija Plovdiv. According to the same community service, he completed a sports studies at the National Sports Academy " Vasil Levski " in Sofia and became a member of the Sport Club Levski Spartak Sofia. There he was trained by none other than the multiple world champion Alexandar Tomow.

His international career began in 1981 with wrestlers taking part in the World Youth Championship ( age group espoir ) in Vancouver. He finished there in spring weight behind Anatoli Tainkin, Soviet Union, and Bernd Gabriel, Germany, 3rd place. In 1982, he was also the Grand Prix of Germany at Freiburg at the start and won there before Piotr Michalik, Poland, Anatoly Tainkin and Bernd Gabriel.

In 1983 he was Bulgarian featherweight champion for the first time. In April this year, he was then employed at the European Championships in Budapest, where she won the featherweight before Uta Constantin, Romania, Alexander Litvinov, Soviet Union, and Günter Reichelt, DDR, the title. At the World Championships this year in Kiev, he won a bronze medal behind Hannu Lahtinen, Finland, and Günter Reichelt.

In 1988, he was then at the Olympic Games in Seoul in the finals of the featherweight against his old rival Kamandar Madschidow. He lost that fight but on points and won the silver medal.

Then Schiwko Wangelow ended his active wrestler 's career. Since the political changes in Bulgaria in the 1990s, he has been an independent businessman and had temporarily held some offices in the Bulgarian Wrestling Federation.
