ZhoÅ™ (Jihlava District)

Zhoř ( German Shorsch, also Zhorz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located seven kilometers south-east of Polná and belongs to Okres Jihlava.

Geography

Zhoř located in the Arnolecké hory am Bach Chmelský creek, which rises southeast of the village. The Moravian village is located one kilometer south of the historic border with Bohemia. North of the village is the forest Velky Ochoz. In the east, the Na Vrchu rises (617 m ) south of the Kopaniny (602 m) and the Skalek (626 m).

Neighboring towns are Záborná and Janovice in the north, Milov and Stáj in the northeast, and Chroustov Arnolec in the east, in the southeast Jersín, Nadějov in the south, and Rybné Jamné in the southwest, and Měšín Ždírec in the west and Lipina and Dobroutov in the northwest.

History

The village was probably built during the colonization of the Moravian border forests by the monastery Třebíč in the second half of the 13th century as slash and burn. The Waldhufendorf with church and parish was originally part of the monastic estates, but was later passed as Mannslehn to secular owners. Near the church was a small festivals that developed into a noble residence, which included the upper part of the village. The lower village remained at the monastery. The first written mention of the village dates back to 1339 when the owner of the festivals, Otto Graf von Magdeburg, the church patronage claimed and received. In 1390 the owner of the processed festivals, Susanne von Maly Zhoř, with the provost Měřín because of the court Pustina. For a payment of six shock silver they renounced all claims to Pustina. Susanne Malý Zhoř joined involuntarily in 1399 also that church patronage, to the parish Měřín from. Under Rambold XIII. After the abolition of patrimonial Zhoř formed in 1850 a municipality in the district of Jihlava. From 1949 the congregation to Okres Jihlava - okolí and since 1961 was again Okres Jihlava. North of the village there is a sports airfield. In the eastern outskirts of the village lies the Racecourse Zhoř.
