Zichenau (region)

The county Zichenau (Polish Ciechanów ) was a after the occupation of Poland in 1939 created, the province of East Prussia affiliated, County. It included a territory of 13186.4 km ² and had a population of approximately 895,000 inhabitants. Of these, 800,000 were Polish, 80,000 Jewish and 15,000 German origin.

Economy

The main industries were the sugar industry with five sugar factories within the government district. Spreads were also brickworks, mill and sawmill industries. There was a shipyard foundry, an agricultural machinery and Wagenbaufabrik. In addition, the country was characterized more agrarian.
