Zielonka

Zielonka is a city in the powiat Wołomiński in the Masovian Voivodeship, Poland. It has the status of a municipality.

Geography

Zielonka located 13 km north-east of Warsaw on the River Długa. The city has a surface area of 79.23 km ². 5% of the city area is used for agriculture, 53 % is covered by forest.

History

To 1914

In the second half of the 10th century the village of Wallburg shelter in Bródno that belonged to the princes Siemomysław. After the destruction of the castle in the 11th century, the country was Zawichostowi. In the 14th century the village came under the administration of the royal estates in Bródno. In the 16th century the river was Długa a mill, remains of the building still exists today. Probably in the 16th century, but no later than the 18th century, the name was Zielonka. In the 17th century the village came into the possession of the Marcinkanki Monastery in Warsaw. During the Kościuszko Uprising took place October 26, 1794 a battle of Zielonka instead. 1862 was built by Zielonka the railway line Warsaw - St.Petersburg. After commissioning of the railway line many summer residences originated from Warsaw citizens in Zielonka.

1914 to today

During the First World War, workers from Zielonka were forced to work in German armaments factories. 1919 Zielonka seat of Wojskowy Instytut Techniczny Uzbrojenia ( Military Institute of Armour technology). In August 1920 a battle between the Red Army and the Polish army took place. 1926, the name Zielonka was used for the community for the first time. At this time the population increased significantly. For military purposes, a narrow-gauge railway was laid. 1939 in Zielonka an airfield was prepared for defense. On September 13, 1939, the village was occupied by the Wehrmacht. On 30 July 1944, the Red Army reached the city.

1948 Zielonka was a separate municipality. On 1 January 1961 Zielonka received its town charter.

From 1975 to 1998, the village belonged to the Province of Warsaw.

Education

The municipality has seven kindergartens ( przedszkole ), three public primary schools ( szkoła podstawowa ) and a middle school ( gimnazjum ). In addition a non-public school with elementary and middle school and a school center.

Traffic

Through the town the railway line Warsaw - St.Petersburg runs. There are two railway stations of the city. Also run through the city Droga wojewódzka 631 Warsaw Zielonka Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki and the Droga wojewódzka 634 Warsaw Zielonka Tłuszcz.
