Zigzag

The zig -zag pattern ( or zigzag ) is a pattern of short lines that are strung together in always equal angles, so that the ends of which describe two parallel lines or arcs. A zig -zag pattern is constructed and is among the oldest ornamental patterns of human history through repeated reflection of a route.

Zig -zag patterns are a fundamental element of many ornaments and decorations, such as china and ceramics.

The zig -zag seam can be mechanically produced by a sewing machine. Zig- zag seams are characterized by elasticity, what is the sewing of fabrics that are held in different directions, of importance (eg, balloon envelopes, parachutes, sails ). See: Sewing

Zigzag often describes the direction of a text in a plurality of columns or rows. It is important here that is bound at the end of the row or column to the beginning of the next row or column - as opposed to the direction of snake in the sequel takes place nearer the beginning of the next row or column. Normal German multi-column texts are formatted with a zigzag. The Snake direction is rather in the arrangement of ornaments or more equal parts of text use, and is thus rare overall.
