Zikhron Ya'akov

Zichron Yaakov (Hebrew זיכרון יעקב - several different transcriptions of the name are found ) is a local association in the Israeli Haifa District at the southern end of the Carmel mountain range. In 2007, it had 17,800 inhabitants.

The city was founded in 1882 by Jewish immigrants with the help of Baron Edmond de Rothschild as Moschawa. The name of the city ( "Memory of Jacob ") was Rothschild's father, Jacob Rothschild, chosen to honor.

Baron Rothschild led in the first years after the founding of the town, the planting of vines and plant a vineyard. Along the nearby coast, in today's kibbutz Nachscholim, a bottling plant was built.
