Zil-e-Huma Usman

Zilla Huma Usman ( born September 16, 1971, † 20 February 2007 in Gujranwala ) was a Pakistani politician and women's rights activist.

Zilla Huma Usman graduated in political science at the University of the Punjab from Lahore in 1998. In 2002 she was elected as a Member of the Muslim League in parliament. Between 2003 and 2006 she held the office of Secretary of State until she was appointed in December 2006 to the Minister of Social Affairs. Virtue of their office, she focused primarily on combating violence against women.

Zilla Huma Usman In April 2005, initiated a mini-marathon in Gujranwala in which women should run along. The event led to riots in the city, which were triggered by activists who wanted to stop the run.

On 20 February 2007 Zilla Huma Usman was in Gujranwala, where she wanted to make a speech, shot. The assassin, Mohammed Sarwar, reportedly was by her refusal to conform to the Islamic dress code and a dislike for the inclusion of women in political affairs, motivated. Zilla Huma Usman was how many women in Pakistan, a Shalwar Kameez, but without a scarf covering the hair.

Zilla Huma Usman was married and had two sons.

On 20 March 2007 Mohammed Sarwar was sentenced to death.
