Action

Heinrich Zille, just over 40 years old will be released in Berlin around the turn of the century, after 30 years of his employer. Although he is now penniless, he can devote himself to his passion, painting finally. He wants his art to document the lives of ordinary people. But that may not always be the undersigned, oddball. It takes a long time until he can show them that he honestly thinks it with them. With the backyard singer Jette created a special relationship. She wants to get out of the environment. She gets a job with the " variety". There, she ends up in the arms of a factory owner 's son, who seduces her and then lets sit. But she still is Ede, the sleeping boy with her mother and she loves for a long time - she realizes that he is the right thing.

This film is one of the rare attempts at DEFA to make a film in musicals. Originally Horst Bonnet should be directing. Werner W. Wallroth created after he took over the direction a successful mix of social drama and Berliner Volksbank piece.

Lead actor Kurt Nolze was a serious cabaret singer who played here the greatest of his few film roles. Werner Lierck - one of the most popular comedian since the 1950s - occurs in this film in several roles. It was also his last appearances before his death in 1985.
