The Zimmermann Musikverlag is considered the oldest Instrumental Methods - publisher in the world.

1876 ​​Julius Heinrich Zimmermann made ​​in St. Petersburg with a music shop independently. Four years later he opened his first instrument factory for brass instruments. More specialized workshops followed, in which their own models have been developed. At the same time he offered learning methods for almost all instruments. Therefore, the Musikverlag Zimmermann is the oldest Instrumental Methods - publisher in the world. Offices in Moscow, London and Riga were opened. 1886 Julius Heinrich Zimmerman moved on to Leipzig.

In the publishing appeared Mili Alexeyevich Balakirev composers such as Sergei Lyapunov, Riccardo Drigo, Leonardo De Lorenzo and others. 1919, the Russian businesses were nationalized. 1922 handed Julius H. Zimmermann all business affairs to his sons William ( 1891-1946 ) and August Zimmermann ( 1877-1952 ). In 1928, the company was divided. The instrument company was continued until 1936 by August Zimmermann. The publishing house became the sole possession of Wilhelm Zimmermann. He moved all guitar compositions by Niccolò Paganini, took jazz into its product line and has published numerous compositions by Nikolai Karlovich Medtner. After his death, the publisher went into the hands of his widow Edith Zimmermann, born on Krieckler ( 1900-1975 ). After the expropriation in the Russian zone of occupation, they moved the company to her hometown of Frankfurt am Main. In 1975, their daughter Maja -Maria Rice ( 1929-2000 ), the publisher successfully. She was the first woman on the Board ( and president ) of the German Music Publishers Association.

Today, the publisher is still privately owned by the daughter Cornelia Grossmann and is under one roof with the music publisher Robert Lienau Edition Hieber and Allegra Musikverlag. Since January 2013, the company headquarters Erzhausen.
