Zinat Mahal

Zinat Mahal (* 1821, † 1882 in Burma), also known as Nawab Zinat Mahal Begum Zeenat Mahal or the chief wife of India's last Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah II was she was the only one of his wives, who belonged to a noble family itself. The two married in 1840. Bahadur Shah was at this time already 64 years old.

Zinat Mahal Bahadur Shah was able to displace current favorite wife, and bare a son, Mirza Jawan Bakht. He tried to secure the throne over the next few years, although he was the fifteenth of the 16 sons of the Great Mogul. In the Indian Rebellion of 1857 it supported the British while her husband is at least nominally placed himself at the head of the insurrection. After the suppression of the rebellion she followed the Mughal emperor exiled to Burma, where she died.
