Zlatá Baňa

Zlata Bana ( to 1927 slovak also " Zlaté "; Hungarian Aranybanya ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia, with a population of 428 (as at 31 December 2011). It is located in Okres Prešov, Prešov Region of a circle.

Geography

The municipality is located in the mountains Slanské Hills, on three streams: delna, Jozefka and Rakuvpotok. The highest point in the municipality is mount Šimonka ( 1092 m nm), the town center is situated at an altitude of 590 m nm Zlata Bana located 16 kilometers east of Prešov and 40 km north of Kosice.

Administratively divided the community into districts and Zlata Bana Sigord.

History

The village was founded in the 16th century on the former municipality of Lesíček and was first mentioned in writing in 1550. The place name (literally "gold mine " ) is reminiscent of the tried gold mining in the period from 1730 to 1861, but which was largely unsuccessful. 1828 are listed three houses and 25 inhabitants. Only around half of the 19th century, it became independent and was characterized in the late 19th century by Lehmförderung, which was used for local tile manufacturing. Beginning of the 20th century promoted to antimony before the degradation was stopped by the First World War.

Today, the community is based on tourism.
