Zlín Z-50

The Zlin Z- 50 is a single-engine aerobatic aircraft, which was produced by the Czechoslovak aircraft manufacturer Zlín.

Development

The construction work for the Z -50 began in 1973. On 18 July 1975, the first of three prototypes launched on its maiden flight. In the same year, the Z- 50 on the XVII was. Engineering Fair in Brno presented to the public. The first production version had as driving a Lycoming AEIO -540 - D4B5 engine and was built under the name Z- 50L. 1976 demonstrated the Z- 50L in the aerobatic world championship, which took place in Kiev, the 2nd place in the team and the 3rd place in the individual standings.

In the late 1970s, the Z- 50LA went with variable pitch control in series. In 1985, the equipped with a more powerful AEIO -540 - L1B5D engine Z- 50LS. The prototype was flown in 1981. This design won the 1983 European Championship and 1984 World Cup in aerobatics. Today it is flown by Aerotriga from Hungary.

A slightly less powerful version with the cheaper local M- 137AZ engine called Z -50M and first flew in 1988. It was intended as a stunt trainer.
